Birthday Party Tips!

July 20th, 2008 Posted in Birthday

We’ve planned a lot of events over the last few years. Big scale, medium scale and small groups. The most challenging to plan are children’s events. Not only do we have to satisfy the adults (who eventually pays the bill), our guest the tiny tots has to leave the place thrilled too!

Let’s talk about annual events, birthdays for instance. A child would at least have one birthday party in their childhood. Don’t fret at the thought of it. If you’re thinking of planning one, here are some tips to help you.

  • Tip #1: Try to plan your party 3-4 weeks in advance. You don’t it to be a frenzy.
  • Tip #2: Choose a theme. Easiest your child’s opinion on this. Getting a theme will help you organize your thoughts on what to buy, what games to play, what party packs to get.
  • Tip #3: Decide on the party time. Best times for parties are between 2.00 – 4.00pm. That way you won’t need to serve a meal but finger foods instead.
  • Tip #4: Sit down with your child and plan the guests list. Make invitations together and get your child to write the names on the invites.
  • Tip #5: Food! What’s a party without food?! Don’t stress yourself over a banquet, plan wise and simple. Keep the menu wholesome but fun. Add colour by adding different types of veggies in sandwiches or sprinkling multi coloured M&M’s on ice cream.
  • Tip #4: Focus on the activities instead of the details! Children LOVE games and interactive activities. They’d leave the place remembering what they did rather than what beautiful deco they saw. Decorate the place but don’t sweat the little details!
  • Tip #5: Party favours! The trick is that every child goes home with a gift. It doesn’t matter if it comes from the dollar shop or Toys ‘r’ Us. Throw in a variety of gifts into a party pack, they’d be happy to dig their noses into it.
  • Tip #6: Important but very often overlooked. Assign a photographer for the party. You’d be so busy having fun, the only time you remember there are no tangible memories of the special day is when it’s all over.

On party favors.. Many Entertainers have party favors as up sells to what they provide. Example: many magicians have small magic kits they can provide..

    These will save you time.

On hiring a entertainer.. you need to start calling when you start planning. and know your budget. Get testimonials and make sure they are insured.

Also many family entertainers also work local restaurants so go see them in action.

A good entertainer will make the party a success while a GREAT entertainer will make it unforgettable.

I would suggest that you also cater to the adults attending the party. Include the adults in the game and activities to it’s fun for all.

When you are planning those games, try to play games that don’t eliminate people. That way you have all the children involved and engaged all the time.
